In a message sent to the head of the Afghan Bakhtar News Agency, Naderi said that he and the IRNA staff were saddened by the news of the devastating quake.
He said that the Iranian people, like before, stand by their Afghan brothers and sisters and express sympathy with them.
The 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit an area near the southeastern city of Khost, near the border with Pakistan.
So far, at least 1,000 people have been confirmed dead. More than 600 others have been injured too.
Afghanistan’s officials say the death toll is expected to rise, as an unknown number of people are still under rubble.
It was the deadliest quake to hit Afghanistan in 20 years.
The tremor was also felt in Pakistan and India.
